Description
Professional Heat-Activated Repair Compound for Leather, Vinyl & Synthetic Leather
LeTech Vinyl & Leather Weld is a professional heat-activated repair compound designed to repair cuts, tears, holes and other damage in vinyl, synthetic leather and compatible genuine leather surfaces.
Developed as part of the LeTech ExpertLine range, its specialist formulation provides excellent flexibility, strength and abrasion resistance, helping create durable repairs that withstand everyday use.
Unlike conventional air-drying leather fillers, Vinyl & Leather Weld cures when heat is applied, allowing technicians to complete repairs quickly while maintaining the flexibility of the original material.
It is particularly effective for automotive interiors, furniture upholstery, vehicle trim and other applications where a strong, flexible repair is essential.
Strong, Flexible Repairs
Vinyl and synthetic leather surfaces are frequently exposed to movement, stretching and abrasion.
Conventional repair compounds may become brittle or crack when subjected to repeated flexing.
LeTech Vinyl & Leather Weld is formulated to produce a flexible repair that moves with the surrounding material.
Once correctly cured, the compound provides excellent durability and abrasion resistance, making it particularly suitable for heavily used areas such as automotive seats, bolsters and furniture upholstery.
Heat-Activated for Rapid Curing
One of the main advantages of Vinyl & Leather Weld is its heat-activated curing technology.
Unlike conventional fillers that require extended drying times, Vinyl & Leather Weld cures through the controlled application of heat.
The repair area should reach approximately 180°C to activate the curing process.
Typical curing time is approximately 40–180 seconds, depending on the application thickness, temperature and surrounding conditions.
When correctly heated, the compound becomes slightly glossy. Once cooled, it forms a firm, flexible repair.
Vinyl & Leather Weld does not cure by air drying and does not require a separate hardener.
This makes it particularly useful for professional repair technicians who need efficient working times without compromising repair quality.
Reproduce the Original Leather Grain
Achieving a professional repair involves more than simply filling the damaged area.
The surface texture must also match the surrounding material.
LeTech Vinyl & Leather Weld can be used with the LeTech Leather Grain Copier to reproduce the original grain pattern during the final stages of repair.
A grain impression is taken from an undamaged section of the original material and used to recreate the texture over the repaired area.
This helps the repair blend naturally with the surrounding surface, reducing the visibility of the damage.
Once the repair has been completed, the area can be recoloured and protected using LeTech Leather Colourant and Leather Top Coat.
Ideal for Vinyl and Synthetic Leather
Vinyl & Leather Weld is particularly well suited to repairing:
- Automotive vinyl seats and trim.
- Synthetic leather upholstery.
- Faux leather and eco leather.
- Vinyl furniture and seating.
- Automotive seat bolsters.
- Compatible vehicle interior panels.
- Convertible hood materials, subject to compatibility testing.
- Compatible genuine leather surfaces.
For natural leather restoration, Vinyl & Leather Weld can also be used alongside LeTech Heavy Filler and LeTech Light Filler, where appropriate, to achieve a more refined repair.

LeTech Vinyl & Leather Weld is available in five colours:
- Black
- Grey
- Beige
- Cream
- Natural (Clear)

Instructions
How to Use LeTech Vinyl & Leather Weld
LeTech Vinyl & Leather Weld is a professional heat-activated repair compound.
The product must be cured using a suitable heat gun or leather repair iron. It will not cure by air drying.
Correct temperature control is essential to achieve a durable, flexible repair without damaging the surrounding material.
Step 1 – Clean and Prepare the Surface
Thoroughly clean the damaged area using LeTech Leather Ultimate Cleaner.
Where necessary, use LeTech Leather Alcohol Cleaner or Leather Liquid Degreaser to remove grease, oils and other contamination that could interfere with adhesion.
Allow the surface to dry completely before proceeding.
Step 2 – Prepare the Damaged Area
Inspect the damage and remove loose or deteriorated material.
Carefully straighten any raised or distorted edges.
For holes or larger tears, reinforce the underside using a suitable backing material to provide additional support.
Ensure the damaged area is stable before applying the repair compound.
Step 3 – Apply Vinyl & Leather Weld
Apply a thin layer of Vinyl & Leather Weld directly to the damaged area.
For deeper damage, initially fill approximately 50% of the depth, leaving sufficient space for additional layers and final texture replication.
Spread the compound evenly using a suitable repair spatula or palette knife.
Avoid applying excessively thick layers, as these can prevent the compound from curing correctly.
Step 4 – Activate the Repair with Heat
Using a suitable leather repair iron or hot-air gun, carefully heat the repair.
The repair compound should reach approximately 180°C to activate curing.
Typical curing time is approximately 40–180 seconds, depending on the thickness of the application, temperature and working conditions.
As the compound cures, the surface will become slightly glossy.
Use controlled heat application to avoid scorching, melting or distorting the surrounding leather or vinyl.
Step 5 – Allow the Repair to Cool
Once the compound has been correctly heated, allow the repaired area to cool completely.
A LeTech Chill-Bar may be used to accelerate cooling.
When correctly cured and cooled, the compound should feel firm rather than sticky or tacky.
Step 6 – Build Additional Layers
For deeper repairs, apply further thin layers of Vinyl & Leather Weld as required.
Each layer must be individually heat-cured and allowed to cool before the next layer is applied.
Continue until the damaged area has been sufficiently filled, leaving the final layer ready for texture replication.
Step 7 – Reproduce the Original Grain
For a more natural-looking repair, use LeTech Leather Grain Copier to reproduce the surrounding surface texture.
First, create a grain impression from an undamaged area with a matching texture.
Apply the final layer of Vinyl & Leather Weld to the repair.
Position the prepared grain impression over the repair and apply heat through the appropriate protective paper using a suitable repair iron.
The heat activates the compound while the grain impression transfers the original surface texture.
Allow the repair to cool completely before carefully removing the impression.
Important: Ensure the grain impression and protective materials are suitable for the temperature required. Do not apply an uncontrolled heat source directly to the impression or surrounding upholstery.
Step 8 – Complete the Restoration
Once the repair has fully cured and cooled, inspect the surface.
If necessary, carry out any final preparation before recolouring.
Apply LeTech Leather Colourant to match the surrounding material, followed by the appropriate LeTech Leather Top Coat.
Follow the individual product instructions for application and drying.
Troubleshooting – If the Repair Remains Tacky
Vinyl & Leather Weld should become firm after correct heat curing and cooling.
If the compound remains sticky or tacky, consider the following:
Insufficient Heat
The compound may not have reached the required curing temperature of approximately 180°C.
Check the heating method and ensure sufficient heat reaches the repair.
Excessive Application Thickness
Thick layers can prevent heat from penetrating throughout the compound.
Where necessary, remove excess material and rebuild the repair using thinner layers.
Heat Loss Through the Material
Thick or heavy materials, including certain convertible hood fabrics, can absorb and dissipate heat.
A more concentrated heat source or longer controlled heating period may be required.
Surface Contamination
Residual oils, grease or other contaminants may interfere with adhesion and repair performance.
Ensure the surface has been thoroughly cleaned and prepared before application.
