Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS

The LeTech Matt X2 Finish EXPERT LINE is a professional product. Working with it requires a specific application technique as well as an understanding of the properties of the product.

Our LeTech ACADEMY – LeCademy+ trains you in the correct use of our professional care and restoration products and supports you in the application process.

SURFACE PREPARATION

The process of repairing and dyeing leather consists of several important steps, which must be carefully followed in order to achieve a good result.

The surface to be painted must be thoroughly cleaned of dust, dirt and foreign matter, using a professional Leather Ultimate Cleaner.

In the case of heavy soiling and grease stains in the leather, the dirt and grease must first be removed using Leather Degreaser.

After thorough cleaning and preparation, the leather should be degreased using Leather Alcohol Cleaner (link) or Leather Liquid Degreaser (link).

If your leather is damaged or the paintwork is damaged, you should first remove the loose old paintwork with Leather Prep or Solvent Cleaner.

After thorough cleaning and preparation of the leather for painting, apply LeTech Leather Primer with Cross Linker X (link) 5-10% of the product.

PAINT APPLICATION

Shake paint thoroughly prior to application. For best surface finish it is recommended to apply the paint in thin and even coats by spraying with a paint gun or airbrush.

Pneumatic spraying by airbrush or airbrush gun. Can be diluted with distilled water. Nozzle diameter: 0.5 to 1.2 mm. Pressure: 1.1 – 8 bar (depending on airbrush or spray gun model). Compressed air must be free from water and oil. Paint must be thoroughly mixed and passed through a 190 micron filter before application.

Application with sponge, brush or roller: The optimum viscosity allows application by hand, touching up minor spots on the leather, creating a base coat for further treatment of the leather or restoring the colour.

TOPCOAT APPLICATION

After dying the leather, the unique Matt X2 Finish can be processed by adding Cross Linker X 5-10% of the product.

LeTech protective coatings increase the abrasion and stress resistance of the leather.

With the broad range of protective coatings in the LeTech EXPERT LINE programme, you can match the degree of mattness or gloss you desire – and also match the tactile properties of your leather with our range of unique protective coat additives:

  1. Leather Slip Additive
  2. a Leather Wax-Effect Additive for tactile modification
  3. Leather X-GUARD Leather X-GUARD Additive
  4. Leather Casein Additive
  5. Leather Thickening Agent

Matt X2 Finish is applied as a final step, after the leather has been repaired and coloured, to ensure that the finish is firmly fixed, giving the leather a unique surface finish. It is ideal to apply the protective clearcoat by spraying with an airbrush or paint gun. This allows you to get an even film and the necessary protective coating characteristics. Avoid applying too much varnish as too thick a protective varnish layer can distort the colour of the leather and cause it to become tougher.

The drying time of Matt X2 Finish depends on the ambient temperature and humidity. Normally, the coating can already be used after 2-3 hours after restoration, but the complete curing and crystallisation process takes 8-12 hours.

It is not recommended to expose the leather to cleaning agents and application of various leather care products in the first week after leather restoration and application of Matt X2 Finish. One week after application, the leather may be used without restrictions.

INSTRUMENT CLEANING

After all coatings have been applied, thoroughly rinse the tools used with water and if necessary, use LeTech Leather Prep paint remover.
